About

An intellectual story, not a résumé

Five movements: a short definition, the questions, the road, the principles, and the person outside them.

Who I am من أنا

Sara Chrouf, from Al Khobar. Co-author on Misraj’s Arabic models (Kuwain, Sadeed, Mutarjim, Lahjawi, Baseer) and their benchmarks, Ventures Manager at Misraj Technology, MSc candidate in AI. I work by a window on the Gulf, and I write from the same place I build.

What occupies me الأسئلة

Six questions drive all the work; their full page, with my evolving positions, lives here:

  • Can a machine be a creative partner in Arabic without erasing its dialect? position
  • How does reading change when text becomes interrogable? position
  • Does AI widen our imagination or average it? position
  • How do we design more humane Arabic systems: reading tashkeel, respecting dialect, measured honestly? essay
  • What must remain human in the evaluation loop? essay
  • In which dialect will the next model dream? omikuji

My journey الرحلة

±2019

Research assistant at KACST; robotics trainer with BrightUP at the Ithra camps in Dhahran: the first lesson in turning an idea into a workshop.

±2022

Full-stack at Intlogy: software as a daily craft, not a theory.

2024-26

Misraj: business development into ventures, the five-paper year of 2025, and the start of the MSc.

Thread

From a summer robot to a language model: one question throughout, how a machine serves this coast in its own language.

What I believe المبادئ

  1. Technology is not neutral. The tokenizer is my first exhibit: an engineering decision that distributes cost across languages. See the border essay.
  2. Knowledge is a network, not a list.Hence idea maps that link papers to essays to terms, not flat indexes.
  3. Creativity is dialogue, not output.Even with the model: I write with it, not through it, and keep the right to object.
  4. No intelligence without wisdom, no claim without a benchmark. The house rule at Misraj, and the harder half of any launch.
  5. Complexity explained without flattening. The animated glossary on this site is my daily exercise in it.
  6. Emptiness is part of the design.Ma is not missing content; it is what makes the rest legible.

Outside the work خارج العمل

  • Arabic coffee as ritual, not beverage
  • Corniche walks after isha
  • Japanese shin-hanga prints
  • Arabic calligraphy, as a watcher not a scribe
  • Competing translations of the same haiku
  • Night photography of water
